Dr Samantha Potgieter, infectious disease expert at the Universitas Academic Hospital and affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of the Free State (UFS), will answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccine and its affects.  

The webinar will address questions such as the following:

• what vaccination is and how it works
• how vaccines are developed and how we know they are safe and effective
• how the COVID-19 vaccine works and how it can protect you
• the side effects of the vaccine
• the risks vs benefits of the vaccine.

Moeletsi Mbeki speaks about the political economy of South Africa

Well-known author and political economist Moeletsi Mbeki will deliver a public lecture at the university on Wednesday 15 August 2012. Mr Mbeki, the deputy chairperson of the South African Institute of International Affairs, will speak about “The political economy of South Africa”.

The lecture is hosted by the Department of Philosophy.
