Dr Samantha Potgieter, infectious disease expert at the Universitas Academic Hospital and affiliated Lecturer in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of the Free State (UFS), will answer questions about the COVID-19 vaccine and its affects.

The webinar will address questions such as the following:

• what vaccination is and how it works
• how vaccines are developed and how we know they are safe and effective
• how the COVID-19 vaccine works and how it can protect you
• the side effects of the vaccine
• the risks vs benefits of the vaccine.

Prof Wessels presented with final degree at his home

Prof Boelie Wessels and University Chancellor Dr Khotso Mokhele

An outstanding academic, colleague, and life-long student of the UFS, Prof Hermanus Wessels, received his 17^th degree this year. At the age of 85, and due to poor health, he was presented with his final degree at his home by University Chancellor, Dr Khotso Mokhele. What would have been a short visit turned out to be a memorable afternoon for both Dr Mokhele and the Wessels family.

Prof Wessels concluded his service to the university, which included Latin translation for the Faculty of Law last year. His outstanding achievements and commitment to the university will always be remembered.
