The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande, has appointed Dr Choice Makhetha, Vice Rector: External Relations, as a board member of the National Institute for Higher Education (NIHE) in the Northern Cape. Dr Makhetha will serve a period of four years on the newly appointed board. The board‘s role is to coordinate higher education in the province.

“The appointment is an exciting and challenging opportunity to serve the country and represent the University of the Free State at this level,” said Dr Makhetha. The NIHE board will be tasked with the establishment of a new university in the Northern Cape.
Dr Makhetha, who was only recently appointed Vice-Rector: External Relations, said the appointment shows that the Department of Higher Education and Training has confidence that she could perform at this level and deliver on the huge task at hand.
