On 20 October 2022, the University of the Free State (UFS) Faculty of Theology and Religion will present the distinguished Tutu-Jonker lecture in honour of the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Prof Willie Jonker. These two theologians are well-known in South Africa for their emphasis on reconciliation, and the series of lectures is a tribute to their reconciliatory efforts.
This will be the first in-person Tutu-Jonker lecture since COVID-19 and the passing of Archbishop Tutu. The keynote speaker, Dr Lazarus Mokobake, Chaplain in the South African Defence Force, will deliver the lecture, themed: ‘Faltering resilience – a nation in need of conciliation’.

Association for academic and non-fiction authors established

The Academic and Non-Fiction Authors' Association of South Africa (ANFASA) approved the establishment of a Free State branch in Bloemfontein. ANFASA aims to give voice to the interests and concerns of all academic and non-fiction authors. The task team that serves as planning and advisory body is from the left: Mr Sandile Ngidi (author, translator and literary agent), Prof Louis Venter (professor-consultant in academic writing and head of the University of the Free State's Unit for the Development of Rhetorical and Academic Writing), Ms Monica Seeber (Director of ANFASA) and Mr Winston Mohapi (prize-winning author, translator en member of the Sesotho Literature Association).
