Disruption of academic activities occurred on the Bloemfontein, South, and Qwaqwa campuses of the University of the Free State (UFS) on 1 and 2 August 2023.
The university management is aware that the protest action has impacted our students’ academic programme, as well as academic and support service activities on the campuses.
Here is a message to staff and students from Prof Francis Petersen, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the UFS, about the events of the past two days: https://vimeo.com/kovsies/fromthevc

As is custom, there will be a morning and an evening procession, during which university residences will present their floats. Floats will depart at 09:00 for the first procession of the day. This route will end at Twin City Mall at 11:00, where 10 000 meals will be distributed to communities in Heidedal and Mangaung. Learners from Heidedal schools will entertain the public with their talents.
The float winners will be announced at 17:00, whereafter the main procession of the day will depart from the Tempe robot in Nelson Mandela Drive to the Chevrolet Park Cricket Stadium at 18:00. Here spectators will be entertained by Mango Groove, Robbie Wessels and Zakes Bantwini until late.
