This year, the University of the Free State will witness one of its biggest graduation seasons yet. A total of 19 ceremonies will take place this April. The Qwaqwa Campus will host four ceremonies from 14 to 15 April and the Bloemfontein Campus will host fifteen celebrations from 18 to 22 April 2023.
A grand total of 8 628 graduates will walk across the stage throughout the seven days. In addition, four honorary doctorates will also be conferred. Prof Stephen Brown will be awarded the Council Medal, Prof Mattheus Lötter is to receive the Chancellor's Medal.

Biodiversity and evolution of animal life under the spotlight

The Department of Zoology and Entomology at the University of the Free State (UFS) presented a lecture on biodiversity and evolution of animal life on 30 April 2009. The lecture forms part of the year long lecture series presented by the UFS in collaboration with the National Museum and Central University of Technology, Free State (CUT) to commemorate the birth of Charles Darwin 200 years ago: Pictured here outside the Wynand Mouton Theatre are the guest speakers: Proff. Schalk Louw, professor in Entomology in the Department of Zoology and Entomology, Linda Basson, also a professor in Entomology, and Jo van As, initiator of the Darwin year celebrations and head of the Department of Zoology and Entomology.
