Prof. Gerrit van Tonder (right) from the University of the Free State's (UFS) Institute for Groundwater Studies (IGS) recently received an honorary life membership from the Groundwater Division of the Geological Society of South Africa. The membership was given as a token of appreciation for his outstanding service and dedication to furthering the science of groundwater. Prof. Van Tonder is the seventh staff member of the UFS to be honoured in this way by the society. Prof. Jopie Botha (left), also from the IGS, received this membership in 2007.
