2016-02-25

State of our campuses #12

Earlier today, the management of the University of the Free (UFS) reached an agreement with contract workers about negotiations towards outsourcing, as well as their concerns about conditions of employment with their employers.

A group of 39 contract workers was arrested at the Bloemfontein Campus on Monday 22 February 2016 for contempt of court relating to the interdict that was issued, as well as illegal gathering. The group was released on Tuesday 23 February 2016. Discussions with the university management continued after their release and an agreement was reached today.

The protest of contract workers started on Thursday 18 February 2016. They will return to work on Monday 29 February 2016.
