Mark your calendar: The Faculty of Law's Human Rights celebration is approaching!

In commemoration of Human Rights Day, the Faculty of Law at the University of the Free State (UFS) is marking the occasion with a series of special events. These include a panel discussion titled Contribution of Sir Kentridge to Human Rights in South Africa and Beyond, and a public lecture titled Thirty Years of Human Rights in South Africa? Any Reason to Celebrate? – delivered by Emeritus Constitutional Court Justice Albie Sachs, promising a day of profound reflection and insight.

Kovsie Alumni honours alumni

Kovsie Alumni recently honoured its alumni for 2007 during a gala dinner held on the Main Campus in Bloemfontein. Juan Smith, member of the victorious World Cup Springbok team and captain of the 2007 Vodacom Free State Cheetahs Currie Cup winners, received the 2007 Kovsie Alumnus of the Year award. Dr Sherylle Calder and Dr Derick Coetzee both received the Kovsie Alumni Cum Laude Award for their role in the preparation and conditioning of the World Cup Springbok team. Prof. André Claassen was honoured with a Cum Laude Award for his contribution in the advancement of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology.
