In the interest of the safety of the staff and students at the University of the Free State (UFS), the Executive Management assessed the current situation on the three campuses and made the following resolutions:
1. The Qwaqwa Campus is closed with immediate effect, and students are requested to leave the campus within the next 24 hours.
2. The Executive Management Committee extends an invitation to the Student Representative Councils (SRCs) of all three campuses to further engagement.
3. On the Bloemfontein and South Campuses, all lectures are suspended until further notice; however, only limited movement will be allowed on campus from 19:00 in the evening until 07:00 in the morning.
UFS Jazz Band to perform at Carnival City

The University of the Free State (UFS) Jazz Band, a smaller version of the Big Band, and two students from the UFS, Richard Reeder (piano, first year) and Susan McAlpine (recorder, master’s level), have been selected to perform at the YAMAHA Young Talent Competition at Carnival City in Brakpan on Saturday, 16 October 2010. The YAMAHA Young Talent Competition is a national competition sponsored by Yamaha South Africa. The qualifying rounds are held in various provincial centres around the country, where the finalists are chosen who go through to the national grand finale at the Carnival City Big Top Arena. The first prize includes a YAMAHA concert grand piano for the winning affiliated institution. |
