Faculty of Theology and Religion:  Apocalyptic Literature and Mysticism

Apocalyptic Literature and Mysticism—Investigating a Turn in Recent Apocalyptic Research (7 August 2017, Bloemfontein)

Yale Divinity School and the Faculty of Theology and Religion at the University of the Free State will host a conference on the theme: Apocalyptic Literature and Mysticism. Investigating a Turn in Recent Apocalyptic Research on 7 August 2017 in Bloemfontein. The conference focuses on the relationship between apocalyptic literature and Merkavah Mysticism/mystical movements/texts. This general theme assumes research done by a diverse group of scholars such as Scholem, Gruenwald, Elior, Schäfer, John and Adela Collins, as well as Segal and Deconick.

Apart from the main papers, there will also be several parallel slots for short papers. Proposals for short papers (30 minutes) on the theme of the conference or on individual apocalyptic and mystical sources may be submitted to Francois Tolmie until 15 June 2017 at tolmief@ufs.ac.za.
