NETTIE IMMELMAN MEMORIAL CONCERT

100th Anniversary Concert with Grethe Nöthling (piano), Nicol Viljoen (piano) & Jan Beukes (organ)

19 October 2017

Odeion

19:30

Legendary piano teacher, Nettie Immelman, passed away in 2011. The OSM presented the first memorial concert in her honour in 2012. This year is the 100th anniversary of her birth on 10 January 1917.

The programme of the concert will focus on some of Nettie Immelman’s favourite composers and works which held special artistic and pedagogical value to her. Since the first memorial concert all programmes were devoted to piano recitals. With this programme however, a musical reflection of her personal spiritual life which influenced her thinking and actions, will be included.

Jan Beukes will perform five chorale preludes from JS Bach’s well-known Orgelbüchlein to illustrate certain aspects of Immelman’s spiritual life. The rest of the programme will consist of piano works by Mozart, Ravel and Schubert performed by Grethe Nöthling and Nicol Viljoen.

PROGRAMME

Mozart: Piano Sonata in D major, K.576
Ravel: Mirroirs (Une barque sur l'océan - "A Boat on the Ocean" & Alborada del gracioso - "The Jester's Aubade")
Bach: Five Chorale Preludes from Orgelbüchlein
Interval
Schubert: Sonata in B-flat major, D.960
