A long time ago, in Arcadia, a land covered with golden sand, lived a Sultan and his beautiful daughter, Princess Shumaila. On the Princess’s eighteen birthday, her father arranged for her to meet three possible suitors. The Princess was unsure of these plans but with the help of her camel friend, Jamaila and the all-knowing Genie Alim, they will help her to devise a plan to make her decision easier.

Everything doesn’t go according to plan, though, because of the jealous sorceress Mara who will do everything in her power to become queen of Arcadia. Come and join the princess and her friends to see what plan they will devise to help Princess Shumaila and save the kingdom from the evil sorceress.

The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is a postgraduate student’s production of the Department Drama and Theatre Arts. This production is under the direction of Gerben Kamper.

This production is based on the witchcraft phenomenon of Salem in 1692. The seventeen year old Abigail Williams, together with her friends and Tituba, performs unacceptable rituals in a forest. The turning point in events occurs when Reverend Parris catches the girls, while performing these rituals. This marvelous text by Arthur Miller contains moments of shock and secrecy. A struggle between the truth and deception are on the foreground of this performance.

The Crucible will be performed from 12 to 14 May 2010, at the Wynand Mouton theatre, University of the Free State @ 19h30. Tickets are available at Computicket.

Tickets are R30 for adults, R25 for students, Pensioners and group bookings of 10 and more will be R20 per person.
