Nico Luwes new Afrikaans farce, Jollie Patrollie, was specially written for the talented, young third year drama students in 2018. Farce provides exceptional intellectual and physical challenges and artistic skills for actors. A typical farce depends on surprises and unexpected twists in the plot so to tell too much about the story beforehand, might give the fun away. In this crazy farce, a nerdy young bank official tries to convince his grumpy boss, Bidou von Brakel, and his prim and proper wife, Barabarossa, that he is a happily married man and the ideal husband. If he can convince them of his high morals, he might be promoted at work. His only problem is that he is not married and hired a young girl to play his so-called wife named, Jollie, for the evening. Due to various comical misunderstandings, the situation turns into a chaotic nightmare for the goodhearted Stephanus. One wonders if the grumpy old boss, Bidou, is as morally innocent as he pretends. Bidou’s wife, Barbarossa sits squarely on her poor husband’s head and does not trust Stephanus and his wife, Jollie, at all. Might Stephanus be a very kinky man with strange habits or not? She finds his wife, Jollie, is even more bizarre. Does she just play dumb or are the little pigs in her head just totally running in circles?

As in all the well-known previous farces by Luwes the comedy lies in the complex plot filled with comical characters caught up strange situations. The plot move at break-neck speed from one crisis to the other and the poor Stephanus must desperately put out fires to get out of trouble. In his typical farce style, double meanings in dialogue is driven further in that one of the characters does not understand one word of Afrikaans! Or do the characters just not have a clue about the situation they are caught in? The actors and the audience must keep their wits together to figure out who knows what, what the real situation and intentions of the characters are. The final test for a farce text and the production on stage depends on whether the audience can be convinced that this could have happened in real life. So beware! Who knows? Maybe you might one day find yourself in a similar situation! This hilarious farce can be enjoyed by the whole family and promises a good old belly laugh for all.

Antonio Pompa-Baldi - piano recital

Born and raised in Foggia (Italy), Antonio Pompa-Baldi first went to the U.S.A. in 1999 to participate in the Cleveland International Piano Competition. He won the first prize, and, while fulfilling all the engagements that came with it, he and his wife, Italian pianist Emanuela Friscioni, decided to make Cleveland their home. A top prize winner at the 1998 Marguerite Long-Jacques Thibaud Competition of Paris, Antonio also won a silver medal at the 2001 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, as well as the Award for the Best Performance of a New Work.

Antonio has toured extensively in four continents, bringing his assured touch on the keyboard to some of the world's major concert venues including Cleveland's Severance Hall, Milan's Sala Verdi, Naples' Teatro Diana, New York's Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall, Boston's Symphony Hall and Paris' Salle Cortot, Salle Gaveau, Salle Pleyel, Theatre des Champs-Elysees and Théâtre du Châtelet. After a triumphant debut in Beijing (China), he was named Honorary Guest Professor of that Institution. Pompa-Baldi also made orchestral and solo appearances at Carnegie Hall, as well as with the Houston Symphony, Berliner Symphoniker in Tokyo (Japan), Colorado Symphony, North Carolina, Peoria, and Duluth Symphony Orchestras, Rochester Philharmonic, Jacksonville Symphony, Auckland Philharmonia (New Zealand), Kansas City Symphony, Toledo Symphony, Cleveland Pops, National Orchestra of Santo Domingo, Symphony of the Americas (Ft. Lauderdale), Canton Symphony, and Orchestra di Toscana (France). He also performed recitals in cities such as Seoul, Paris (Chopin Festival), Chicago, Ravinia, Houston (Texas Music Festival), Portland (OR), Sacramento, Fort Worth (Cliburn Series), Salt Lake City (Assembly Hall), Duszniki Zdroj, Poland (Chopin Festival) and Toledo (Spain). He has collaborated with leading conductors including Hans Graf, James Conlon, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, Keith Lockhart, Christopher Seaman, Fabio Mechetti, Daniel Hege, Louis Lane, Pascal Rophe', Grant Llewellyn and Stefan Sanderling.

Antonio's recordings include an all-Brahms disc (Azica), a live and unedited recital from his award-winning Cliburn Competition performances (Harmonia Mundi) and since 2002, he has recorded for Centaur Records. He serves as Distinguished Professor of Piano at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and gives master classes around the world. He is often invited to judge international piano competitions.
