“There once was a Velveteen Rabbit, and in the beginning, he was really splendid. He was fat and bunchy, as a Rabbit should be; and for at least an hour the Boy loved him”.

Hoe speelgoed regtig-egtig word is a brand-new theatre script from the pen of Karen Combrinck based on Margery Williams’ beloved tale of the Velveteen Rabbit.  The production tells the tale of a shy toy rabbit who wants nothing more than becoming real.  One day the toy rabbit ends up on a heap of Christmas gifts.  Along with the other toys, old and new, the velveteen rabbit goes on a journey of discovery during which he realizes that it is not what you can do or what you look like that matters, but that being loved by someone else makes you real.

DeBeer Cloete (Bunnicula, Lyle the Crocodile and A monster under the bed) directs this production that showcases the talents of the second-year drama and theatre arts students.

The production opens on Wednesday 19 September at the Rehearsal Room at the Scaena Theatre Complex on the UFS campus.

Tickets are available through Computicket and are priced between R20 and R25.

Showtimes are as follow:  19 - 21 September 11:00, 21 September 18:00 and 22 September 10:00 and 12:00.

Kalla is a “sales lady” who recently moved from Johannesburg to start her new business in Hopetown. Her plan is to invite the other ladies from the town to a tea party and then, in a very subtle manner, tell them about her new business venture! Kalla’s domestic worker Victoria, is armed with a sharp perception and ready to help, but unfortunately her big mouth often leads to bigger dilemmas. This is just the right recipe for a out of the ordinary girls night: Just pour a stiff drink and mix with spiked punch, whip in cork heels, curlers, Kurt Darren hits, tipsy tart, a secretive briefcase, a stiff bun, odd visitor and straps of seduction, lastly present this with unravelling secrets, chilly sarcasm, red hot arguments and a good dose of, laugh-till-you-drop- cake-and-tea-comedy!
Victoria’s secret is a brand new comedy for women presented by the third year UV Drama Department students and written by Ilne Fourie (Impi and Impi 2- Wat ‘n fees!). Dr. Pieter Venter (Dis ek Anna, Impi, Impi 2 – wat ‘n fees!) directs the play and once again this sound partnership promises to have you rolling in your seat with laughter. The production is performed in the Scaena, so please drop in, because for serious matters we only belief in PUNCH for LUNCH! A must see for young and old!
