Message from Vice-Rector: Research and Internationalisation

Welcome to all our postgraduate students

It is my honor to welcome all our postgraduate students to the three campuses of the University of the Free State (UFS) on behalf of all our staff and current students. The world has gone through dramatic changes over the past year and a half due to the pandemic. The COVID-19 related challenges had a major impact on institutions of higher learning across the globe. The impact of the pandemic on the UFS has been that we now teach many of our programs and modules in a mixed mode of offering, consisting of face-to-face and distance learning opportunities. Despite these challenges, our wish for each one of our postgraduate students is that you will have an intellectually stimulating experience, that you will have a lot of fun gaining new knowledge while working closely with your supervisors, that you will grow outside the formal teaching environment, and that you will make new friends and have opportunities to build research networks across continents.

All our staff, specifically those at the Centre for Graduate Support are committed to ensuring that your postgraduate learning and research experience at UFS is a positive one.  Welcome, and make the best of every opportunity!

Message from Director: Centre for Graduate Support

A big and warm welcome to all prospective and current postgraduate students and staff of the University of the Free State.

Your experience at the UFS will not only result in you accumulating more knowledge, but will also result in you developing tremendously as a human being (socially, psychologically, physically, and intellectually). The Centre for Graduate Support provides additional support to that which is provided by faculties and departments in the form of workshops, courses, webinars and other presentations, which equip the students with the requisite skills for successful completion of their postgraduate education. We also strive to assist postgraduate students with either funding opportunities or funding news. If you are struggling with academic writing, the centre has the necessary support for you in place.

The Centre for Graduate Support also assists staff members with the necessary support for completion of their Masters and Doctoral degrees. This web page helps explain all these offerings in detail.
