Urban Safari: Art in public space - Artist talk by Alex Rinsler
Alex Rinsler is a public artist based in Manchester UK. He has exhibited nationally and internationally, representing the UK with Urban Fox at the Jing'an International Sculpture Project in Shanghai, 2014. He started the Giant's Foundry in the UK as a place for people to make magical projects that can inhabit city spaces, and bring a touch of the wild to our urban lives. In Manchester he has just produced the opening for HOME, a multi-disciplinary arts centre with five cinemas, two theatres and art gallery. He believes that big and colourful things can give us permission to think differently about the cities we live in, create new imagery and new identities, and ultimately offer a chance for us to live together better.

Rinsler is in Bloemfontein as part of the Programme for Innovation in Artform Development (PIAD), an initiative of the Vrystaat Kunstefees and the University of the Free State, to explore what might be possible in Bloemfontein in the years to come. Join him at this artist talk to hear more about the processes behind his work and to share your ideas.
