
The Odeion School of Music delivers quality research in the fields of New Musicology, Music Education, Pedagogics, and Analytical Studies. Academic articles and contributions to books are published both nationally and internationally.
In addition, academic staff of the school have recently contributed to a book publication, Musics of the Free State: Reflections on a musical past, present, and future (2015; editor Martina Viljoen) published as part of the prestigious international series Musicology without Borders (series editor Stanislav Tuksar).
The Odeion School of Music services a large number of postgraduate students in a wide range of research topics. Academic Head, Prof Martina Viljoen, is a NRF-rated researcher, while Programme Director, Dr Matildie Thom Wium, forms part of the Vice Chancellor’s Prestige Scholars Programme.
