As part of its vision, the University of the Free State (UFS) aspires to be an internationally engaged university that produces globally competitive graduates and knowledge. A key role player in the vision is the Office for International Affairs (OIA). One of the projects in which they are playing a critical leadership role is the iKudu Project – co-funded through Erasmus+ – to bring about a South African concept of Internationalisation of the Curriculum (IoC), which integrates Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) virtual exchanges. In South Africa, student exchange programmes – especially at undergraduate level – remain extremely limited. The national Policy Framework for Internationalisation of Higher Education in South Africa, however, makes internationalisation of the curriculum mandatory and directs that it ‘must not negate curriculum transformation imperatives which higher education institutions in South Africa have an obligation to fulfil'. Office for Intenational Affairs: Enabling internationalisation
at the UFS

Supporting comprehensive internationalisation at the University of the Free State (UFS), the Office for International Affairs (OIA) is the principal enabling office for internationalisation at the institution. Led by Cornelius Hagenmeier, the OIA strategically and operationally supports internationalisation at the UFS, also reporting on institutional internationalisation as well as promoting international scholarships and funding opportunities. The iKudu project, which is an European Union-funded Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) project, has recently launched its blog, which aims to amplify the diverse voices of all iKudu stakeholders. Blending online learning and internationalisation
