ConLaures2

Background

House ConLaurês Residence, formerly known as New Residence A, was officially established on 30 September 2012 by the 2012/13 Residence Committee. The name ConLaurês originates from the Latin phrase Condo Laurus, which translates to "Dreams of Victory." This name was selected from a pool of suggestions submitted by UFS students and reflects the residence’s aspirational vision. House ConLaurês was founded upon four pillars of student leadership, which formed the core values of the residence at its inception. From the beginning, House ConLaurês has stood as a space where students’ dreams are nurtured, developed and brought to life. A home committed to personal growth, leadership and achievement.

Vision

To have students who excel academically while leading a balanced student life, building strong interpersonal relationships and showing integrity and loyalty towards each other and our residence.

Mission

We strive to create a nurturing and inclusive environment that fosters effective leadership, academic and personal growth, and a culture of excellence within House ConLaurês. Through mutual respect, collaboration and a shared commitment to integrity, we empower each other to thrive and contribute to the greater community.

House Values

  • Academic Excellence
  • Loyalty
  • Human Embrace
  • Integrity
  • Respect
  • Accountability

Residential Mascot

The Wolf Pack: Wolves symbolize a powerful combination of companionship, loyalty, intelligence and unity. They also represent strength, courage, leadership and family. Thus, we have the animal WOLF as our residence's mascot. All residential seniors are referred to as "Alpha's" (senior wolves). All students transitioning from other institutions or within the University of the Free State campuses are referred to as “Betas”, and first-years as “Claws” (junior wolves).

Slogan

The slogan "Symphony of Dreams" indicates the unity through which we want to achieve excellence. A symphony orchestra is only good when each individual musician gives his or her own unique input in such a way that the whole orchestra functions together to produce a masterpiece. In the same way we aim to encourage the residents to use and combine their unique talents to bring success to the residence.
