Description

"Productive Study-Time Logs (PSTLs) are simply thumbnail records hat students keep on how much time they spend studying for a particular class, when they study, and how productively they study at various times of the day or night."

Purpose"This technique helps students discover how much they study for a particular course, how well they spend their study time, and at what times studying reaps the greatest returns. Once they have this information, students can make better decisions about when, where, and how to use their study time. Productive Study-Time Logs also allow faculty to assess the amount and quality of out-of-class time all their students are spending preparing for class, and to share that information with students. By comparing the results of their Study Logs with those of their classmates, students can determine whether their level of commitment is in line with their goals and expectations." — Classroom Assessment Techniques, Angelo, TA and Cross, KP, 1993
