IDEA#35 Speed Interviews
 Overview Pages:118-120
"Increasing participation of students, particularly in larger classes, is challenging. The Speed Interviews IDEA engages students in short, information discussions around a specific question or topic. Students quickly form pairs and conduct short interviews. Similar to speed dating, students spend approximately three to five minutes interviewing each other before changing partners. After a few rounds, the instructor calls on students to report on their conclusions from the interviews. As students present the conclusions, write the main points on the board to include in subsequent lectures or discussions.Student participation is beneficial to student learning (Svinicki & McKeachie, 2013), and this approach can help to achieve it. The approach is helpful in activating prior knowledge, solving problems, and getting feedback from peers during a discussion. This activity is also effective at promoting student brainstorming around newly introduced ideas or topics." — Teaching for Learning, Major CH, Harris MS, Zakrajsek T, 2016
