IDEA#74 Field Notes
 Overview Pages:240-242
"The benefits of field trips extend to the college environment, particularly with an added writing component. Field Notes may be done on or off campus, and the write up of field experience typically happens out of class, whether independently or in writing teams. The major goal of Field Notes is to involve students’ experiential learning outside of the typical classroom environment and deepen it with the write up of the experience. This activity presents opportunities for students to actively engage with course ideas. The most successful Field Notes blend course content with relevant field experiences. Through combining content and experience, Field Notes support active engagement and student learning. Moreover, Field Notes can build a sense of community among the class, which can benefit learning even after the conclusion of the course; students share a common experience and then share the experience of writing about it." — Teaching for Learning, Major CH, Harris MS, Zakrajsek T, 2016
