Brief Description
"In this adaptation of the classic newspaper editorial essay, the instructor guides students through the process of writing an editorial on a topic that interests them."

Purpose"Research-based persuasive writing can provide an authentic learning experience, since students can see many examples of this form of writing in their everyday lives. Although this LAT is based on an established, traditional writing format, it can be updated to reflect new forms of persuasive writing that appear in online forums. Students are motivated as they write for an authentic audience on a topic of personal interest. As students take a stance toward the issue, they also take ownership of it, and this creates opportunities to increase student caring about important issues in the field." — Learning Assessment Techniques, Barkley, EF and Major, CH, 2016.
