Brief Description |
"Students work in teams to prepare for instructor-created exams and then take the exams first individually and next as a group. This LAT thus proceeds in three steps: (1) group members study for a test together, (2) individuals take the test, and (3) the group takes the test."
|
Purpose | "By working together to prepare for the exam, students help each other deepen their understanding of the content. Because each student first takes the test independently, this technique emphasizes individual accountability. By retaking the test as a team, individual students benefit from the collective knowledge of the group. This technique, therefore, encourages both individual accountability and promotive interdependence among team members, accomplishing two key features of effective collaborative learning (Barkley et al., 2014). Since in this activity individual scores are often lower than group scores, it can help to underscore the power of collaboration." — Learning Assessment Techniques, Barkley, EF and Major, CH, 2016 |
