Writing as Academic challenges
 Overview Pages: 182-187

Wrote papers longer than 5 pages

Learning from several institutions who are deemed as champions of student engagement and success, Kuh et al. (2010) found that students at these institutions read and write more than at other comparable institutions. Emphasising writing across the curriculum seems to be a common factor. Almost all of these institutions also have a writing centre, which assists students with tutoring and feedback. Referring students to writing centres to help them prepare drafts, and providing structured feedback (making use of peers, tutors, or assistants) could help create a culture of effective writing.
