The year 2034 will be significant for the University of the Free State (UFS), as it celebrates 130 years of existence.

Leading up to this monumental anniversary, the UFS is set to become a top-tier university in South Africa and the world, known for its academic excellence, maximum societal impact, and being diverse, inclusive, and equitable.  

Giving direction on how the UFS will achieve its goal of being ranked among the top five universities in South Africa and the top 600 globally, Prof Francis Petersen, Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the UFS), will map out the institution’s Vision 130 at its official opening for staff on 17 February 2023. 

Addressing staff members on its Bloemfontein and Qwaqwa campuses, Prof Petersen will lay the foundation for Vision 130 – the strategic intent of where the university is heading over the next 12 years.
