Participants enjoying a day of friendly competition and community connection at the 2025 UFS Golf Day, hosted by KovsieSport.
The University of the Free State (UFS) hosted its annual Golf Day with the aim of strengthening relationships, reconnecting with alumni, and engaging key stakeholders in an energetic and collaborative setting. Held under the leadership of KovsieSport, the event reflected the university’s commitment to fostering meaningful partnerships that support long-term sustainability.
A platform for connection and collaboration
According to Maryka Holtzhausen, Senior Manager Operations at KovsieSport stated that the primary purpose of the UFS Golf Day was to create an inclusive platform for community engagement. “The event allowed us to reconnect with alumni and strengthen relationships with current and prospective partners, while also generating an additional income stream for KovsieSport,” she explained. This approach aligns with the university’s broader objectives of enhancing brand visibility, expanding external partnerships, and deepening stakeholder engagement.
The event brought together alumni, corporate partners, UFS staff, and representatives from community organisations. Their participation contributed significantly to the success of the day by creating networking opportunities and reinforcing institutional relationships. Holtzhausen noted that their diverse presence “enhanced the overall credibility and visibility of the event”.
A day of camaraderie and friendly competition
The atmosphere throughout the event was upbeat and sociable. Holtzhausen described it as “energetic, friendly, and highly engaging”, with participants enjoying a blend of competitive play and relaxed social interaction. Enthusiastic team interactions and spirited competition on the course reflected the strong sense of camaraderie among attendees.
A highlight of the day was the prize-giving dinner, which provided a relaxed and celebratory end to the event. This gathering allowed participants to unwind together, further strengthening the connections formed on the course.
Seamless organisation behind the scenes
The event was coordinated by KovsieSport, supported by an external events management company. Holtzhausen emphasised the dedication of team members who handled logistics, sponsorships, participant liaison, and on-the-day operations. “We thank these team members for going above and beyond to make the event a success,” she said.
Positive feedback poured in from participants after the event, with many praising the professional organisation, warm hospitality, and the unique opportunity to engage with the UFS community outside formal settings. Several expressed their intention to return for future events.
Looking ahead to 2026 and beyond
With strong support and enthusiastic participation, plans are already under way to make the UFS Golf Day a recurring annual event. The vision for future editions includes expanded sponsorships, greater participation, and an even stronger presence from alumni and community partners.
Holtzhausen highlighted the broader significance of such initiatives: “Events like this play a vital role in building and maintaining strong relationships. They provide a platform for engagement, fundraising, brand promotion, and long-term partnership development. It also creates an opportunity to show the community that, as a university, we care.”
The UFS Golf Day has once again demonstrated the power of sport to bring people together, strengthen connections, and reinforce the university’s commitment to community-building.
