Within the next five years, 60% of the world’s population will be living in urban areas.  Urban living comes with large-scale economic advantages and society benefits from economies of scale. But, COVID-19 is challenging urban living. We have introduced the term ‘social distancing’ and some policy analysts have even argued for the de-densification of cities.

Education students receive bursaries from FEDSAS

Two first-year students from the University of the Free State’s (UFS) Faculty of Education recently received a bursary to the value of R4 000 each from the Federation of South African Schools (FEDSAS). This is the seventh year that education bursaries are awarded to first-year students of the UFS. Here are, from the left: Prof. Steve Niemann, acting Dean of Education at the UFS, Mr Paul Colditz, Chief Executive Officer of FEDSAS, Meyer Doubell, bursary holder, Anneke Bennett, bursary holder, and Mr Hennie Cronjé, Provincial Manager of FEDSAS.
