The University of the Free State (UFS) and the Glen Agricultural Institute recently presented a cattle farmer conference on the Main Campus in Bloemfontein. The theme of the conference was “Economical survival of the beef cattle farmer”. Prof. Herman van Schalkwyk, Dean of the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences, gave the global picture whilst Prof. Johan Willemse, Head of the Department of Agricultural Economics, spoke about South African beef cattle farming in a changing and challenging economical environment.
