Short CV

Lodewyk Sutton was born the 5th of January 1982 in Pretoria, South Africa. He matriculated High school at Eldoraigne High in 2000. In 2006 he finished his LLB-degree at UNISA and became a qualified advocate. He started theological studies in 2007 at the University of Pretoria where he obtained his BTh, BA Honours Ancient Languages and Cultures and M-Div degrees all with distinction. In 2015 he obtained his PhD in Old Testament Studies, with a thesis titled, “A trilogy of war and renewed honour? Psalms 108, 109 and 110 as a literary composition.” In 2016 he did a post-doc at the University of Pretoria, where he was also a part-time lecturer in Old Testament. He completed a MA in Semitic languages at the Department of Ancient and Modern Languages and Cultures (Faculty of Humanities, UP) in 2019. He is currently the Head of the Department of Old and New Testament studies at the Faculty of Theology and Religion, University of the Free State, where he is a full time Associate Professor in Old Testament. He also serves as a reverend at the Dutch Reformed Church.
