Learning Design in Higher Education (LDHE1505S)

What is it?
A 10-week intensive short learning programme designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of Learning Designers in Higher Education. The next course starts on the 2nd of June 2025.

Why is it important? This initiative empowers Learning Designers in Higher Education to create more effective, inclusive, and engaging learning experiences. It provides both practical and theoretical tools to strengthen their application of learning design principles across blended, online, and face-to-face contexts. The programme also fosters collaboration, reflective practice, and the integration of AI and emerging technologies into learning environments.

How is it implemented? Presented fully online over a 10-week period, this is structured around four key units:

  • The Role of the Learning Designer
  • Learning Theories and Universal Design for Learning
  • Situational Factors, Aims, Outcomes, and Objectives
  • Assessments and Activities

The programme includes weekly live sessions with expert presenters, supported by a strong feedback mechanism, collaborative learning opportunities, and a balance between theory and practice. Feedback from both participants and presenters is used to continuously refine and enhance the course.

Curriculum Renewal Innovation in Higher Education

What is it?
The SLP is designed to empower academics to reflect on and plan for quality learning and teaching; plan and implement changes to their current curricula while receiving individualized feedback to enhance their teaching skills; and develop solutions for the challenges academics face in a 21st century classroom.

Why is it important? The SLP aims to create an environment for academic staff to redesign their modules/courses by considering the purpose, their students, and the Higher Education context through good curriculum design principles.

How is it implemented? The delivery and structure of the five-week online programme will support the learning process, provide ample opportunities for participants to learn key concepts and apply them to their own contexts as part of the curriculum renewal process. During the course of the programme, participants will complete a study guide for their chosen module.
