Central Academic Advising 

Academic advising at the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) focuses on student learning, educational experiences, and seeks to connect students’ academic interests and skills with their personal and career ambitions. Advisors teach students to plan and manage their educational journey and guide them through decision-making processes related to their educational journey.

The goal of academic advising is to instil academic behaviours, such as time-management, study skills and goal setting; that will promote access with success in students. Students are encouraged to access advising services throughout their student journey.

The student learning outcomes achieved through academic advising are that students should: 

  • Feel empowered to take ownership of their personal, academic and career journey.
  • Gained the confidence they need for their academics which promote student wellbeing. 
  • Make use of resources /skills that enable on time-graduation.
  • Establish a sense of belonging through meaningful relationship building between advisor-advisee.
  • Adopt academic behaviours that promote student success.
  • Navigate the institution seamlessly, making use of the student support network.

Through collaborative efforts and continuous communication, central advisors work closely with the faculty to ensure that student know and understand that the university community cares.
