Over the years, universities in South Africa have successfully implemented initiatives such as first-year orientation aimed at assisting first-year students to adapt. However, the first year is not the only major transition that students face. Whether moving from one level of study to another or transferring from one campus to another, students are confronted with many transitional moments during their time at university.

At the University of the Free State (UFS), we acknowledge that going through a transition is a challenging learning experience in its own right and it is important that students build their resilience to successfully negotiate the change.

The Senior Orientation at the UFS has been designed to help our students navigate their transition successfully by bringing all the important information together into one place. The orientation will provide students with an opportunity to virtually meet people in the campus community, to begin planning their professional development, to establish realistic expectations aligned with those of the institution, and foster a sense of belonging as senior students.

The Senior Orientation is not only intended to centralise information that will get you started on the right path, but aims to connect every senior student to the dynamic support programmes that will enable you to achieve your full potential as well as reach the finish line at the UFS.

The Senior Orientation will take place virtually on Blackboard from 21 January 2022.
