SSML 2614: Sociolinguistics in Sesotho

The study of the inter-relationship between the Sesotho language and society, where the understanding non-linguistic factors such as the social nature of the Sesotho language impact on interpersonal and societal communication.
SSMT 2624: Sesotho Poetry and Drama
First Semester (NQF Level 6) – 16 Credits
Study of the emergence, development, artistic features and literary theoretical approaches of poetry and drama in Sesotho.
SSML 3718: Historical Development of Sesotho Linguistics
First Semester (NQF Level 7) - 32 Credits
Knowledge of the development of Sesotho as a written language from the first orthographic representation in 1837, based on theories, principles and practices which critically analyse linguistic trends and historical periods of Sesotho Language, and the impact of language policies or the absence thereof.
SSMT 3728: Historical Development of Sesotho Literature
Second Semester (NQF Level 7) - 32 Credits
Gives an understanding and critical analysis of the historical development of Sesotho literature, from oral stage, through the missionary period until the present stage, providing the students with the ability to categorize Sesotho literature in terms of literary trends as well as historical periods.
