Short CV

Eben Coetzee is a Lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of the Free State. He obtained his PhD in 2017, focusing on the continued relevance of structural realist Kenneth Waltz to understanding and explaining international politics. He completed his MA degree in 2010 from the University of the Free State, focusing in his dissertation on theoretical and historical questions in respect of the democratic peace proposition. His teaching responsibilities are focused at both undergraduate and postgraduate level and he is involved in the supervision of a number of postgraduate students. He has delivered a number of regional and national papers, dealing specifically with the democratic peace proposition and the idea of theory in international relations. . His research interests include: international relations theory (specifically the idea of theory), structural realist theory, Kenneth Waltz, nuclear weapons, causes of war and peace, and the philosophy of science.
