PhD in Governance and Political transformation

This qualification is on NQF level 10 with 360 credits. Limited space is available for possible candidates. The PhD will make an original scientific contribution to the field of Governance and Political Transformation.

The Admission Requirements include the preference to students who have completed the Master’s in Governance and Political Transformation and who has obtained at least 70% for the Masters dissertation.

PhD graduate topics:

  • Corruption in the Eastern Cape: an exploratory study of corrupt practices in the social welfare department
  • Transforming service delivery in rural areas: an analysis of problems surrounding the institution of traditional leadership and its relation to democratically elected local government in Kwa-Zulu Natal
  • Vigilantism as a feature of political decay: tendencies and case-studies in the post-1994 South African political dispensation
  • Democracy in South Africa: a Free State perspective on the December 2000 local government elections
