Albinism Beyond 2030:

The Faculties of Law and Health Sciences at the University of the Free State, South Africa, are proud to announce the Albinism Beyond 2030: Legal and Healthcare Pathways to Inclusion international conference, taking place on 23-24 October 2025 in Bloemfontein, South Africa, with hybrid participation options

The conference aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely peace, justice and strong institutions (SDG 16), good health and well-being (SDG 3) and reduced inequalities (SDG 10). It will bring together scholars, legal experts, healthcare professionals, activists, policymakers, and community leaders to explore innovative legal and healthcare systems and solutions for equal rights, improved healthcare access, and social integration for persons with albinism by 2030 and beyond.

 Keynote Speakers

Antoine Gliksohn

Antoine Gliksohn
Executive Director, Global Albinism Alliance



Profile   

Antoine Gliksohn (born in France) is the youngest of three siblings with albinism. He is the co-founder and current Executive Director of the Global Albinism Alliance, established in 2020 with IK Ero, former UN Independent Expert on the Rights of Persons with Albinism, and Mike McGowan, former Executive Director of NOAH.

Antoine’s advocacy began in 2010 with his election to the board of Genespoir, the French association for people with albinism, where he played a key role in building international networks that led to the creation of Albinism Europe. With a background in engineering, Antoine has supported albinism research for over 15 years, co-authoring scientific papers and helping to organise the International Scientific Conference on Albinism.

Alliance represents the global albinism community at the UNHRC, WHO, and rare disease forums while maintaining close ties with grassroots associations to ensure diverse voices are heard.

Bonface Massah

Commissioner Bonface Massah
Executive Director, Africa Albinism Network and Commissioner, Malawi Human Rights Commission

Profile   

Bonface is the Executive Director of the Africa Albinism Network and a Commissioner at the Malawi Human Rights Commission. A passionate disability rights advocate, he has extensive experience working with policymakers, NGOs, and communities to advance the rights of persons with disabilities.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy from the University of Malawi, an MPhil in Rehabilitation from Stellenbosch University, and an MPhil in Human Rights and Disability Rights from the University of Pretoria. His leadership and advocacy have earned him several international awards, including the 2025 Change Leaders Award on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, the 2018 Mandela Washington Fellowship, and the inaugural Africa Albinism Advocate BARI-BARI Prize (2015–2025).

Bonface is Chairperson of the Federation of Disability Organizations in Malawi and former President of the Association of Persons with Albinism in Malawi. His latest article examines national action plans in advancing socio-economic rights of persons with albinism in Southern Africa.

Nomasonto

Nomasonto Grace Mazibuko 
Executive Director, Albinism Society of South Africa


 

Profile   

Nomasonto Mazibuko is a lifelong activist dedicated to advancing the rights of persons with albinism. Born into a family of ten siblings, half with albinism, she experienced discrimination firsthand, struggling to find work until employed at her sister’s school, where she taught for 20 years. Motivated to drive change, she founded the Albinism Society of South Africa and has since become a leading national and global advocate.

She has served as a Social Cohesion Advocate in the Department of Arts and Culture, a Commissioner for the Commission for Gender Equality, and later its Deputy Chairperson, championing the intersection of gender and disability rights. Nomasonto was instrumental in achieving the AU Plan of Action on Albinism and has represented the cause on global platforms, including hosting a UN CSW side event in 2023.

Her advocacy extends across numerous boards and committees, consistently amplifying voices of persons with albinism and advancing social justice.

Patrick Wadula

Patrick Wadula 
National Chairperson and National Albinism Task Force


 

Profile   

Patrick Wadula is the National Chairperson of the National Albinism Task Force (NATF) in South Africa, established in 2019 to unite organisations and advocates representing persons with Albinism. The NATF plays a pivotal role in championing human rights advocacy for people with albinism across all areas of life.

With over two decades of dedicated service, Patrick has been a passionate advocate for persons with disabilities, particularly those with albinism. A Master of Economics graduate from the University of Economics in Varna, Bulgaria, he is a sought-after speaker at conferences, seminars, and in the media, where he raises awareness and advocates for disability rights. 

He also serves as the National Chairperson of the Disability Sector in the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) Civil Society Forum and previously worked as Assistant Director in the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities. An expert in media and public relations, he brings over 20 years’ experience in journalism and corporate communications. He was recently appointed to the SENTECH Board as a Non-Executive Director.

 



In-Person Attendance: R2 500 (€120).

The fee includes both conference days with refreshments and lunch. It further includes admission to official conference social events and artistic exhibitions.

Online attendance: R1 000 (€60) and includes full access to all sessions.
