Food systems are crucial to achieving sustainable development, food and nutrition security and achieving social, economic and environmental goals. The Bachelor in Food Systems is multi-disciplinary, incorporating the concepts of food production and processing, sustainable agriculture, food security, food systems and sustainable development.
Students who enroll for this exciting degree will develop knowledge and competencies
focused on the value chain, ranging from post-harvesting to food consumption. The Bachelor of Sustainable Food Systems prepares students for a broad range of careers related to managing food systems and sustainable food production, including food product development, food processing, ingredient management, quality assurance, packaging, marketing and retailing, food security and community development.

BACHELOR IN SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS


The modules in this qualification explores all aspects related to sustainable food production, food processing and food systems.

The undergraduate Bachelor degree in Sustainable Food Systems is not a selection programme; therefore, online applications are subject to UFS prescribed dates and guidelines. The first intake for student enrolling for this degree will be in 2024.

The following admission requirements apply as stated in the NAS 2023 Rule Book:

  • NSC or NCV with an endorsement that allows access to degree studies or an equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum AP of 30.
  • A performance level 4 (50%) in an official tuition language.
  • A performance level 2 (30%) for Mathematics or 5 (60%) for Mathematics Literacy.
  • Participation in the National Benchmark (NBT) tests for language.
