Project description
Community Engagement on the Qwaqwa Campus also embarked on a number of projects, adding value to the surrounding community.
Various important stakeholders (South African Police Service, UFS Protection Services, Department of Education, Department of Health, AGAPE Foundation for Development, Thusanang Advice Centre, and local schools) were engaged in the School Safety Campaign. The different stakeholders visited schools where incidents of crime were identified and warned and advised learners to move away from crime.
Students, in partnerships with the AGAPE Foundation for Development, collaborated with the Team Spirit Care Centre/children’s home to mobilise the collection and distribution of clothing. Students made a visible difference in the lives of the children at Team Spirit Centre by donating toys, making swings from tires for the children to play on, and generously donating crockery to the centre.
Students also provided learners with information on how to apply for admission at the university.
Other engagements with the community include a donation of fruit to an orphanage at Lefika in the Mabolela area, where students also helped out with chores at the centre. At the Itsoseng Disability Centre, UFS students assisted in the garden, with feeding the children, and cleaning up. Students also made a visible difference at the Etsa Phapang project by sharing toys and clothes.
