Lebone Village

Lebone House was established in May 2000 and initially opened its doors as a day care facility for HIV/AIDS infected/affected children. At Lebone we aim to provide the children with a loving environment, where we care for their physical needs - love, acceptance, a safe environment, clothing, food, education and medical care. Lebone means LIGHT in Sesotho.

Mission Statement

Five successful programmes are run at Lebone:

Lebone House

Lebone House is a holistic care centre for children affected/ infected by HIV/AIDS which embraces, affirms and adheres to all aspects of their human rights. Because we believe that each child has a right to live within their own family, culture and community Lebone House strives to provide an alternative setting that approximates that of their own family when there is no family.

Lebone Skills Development Centre

This Centre has fifteen sections where 74-100 people per year are not only empowered with a skill but uplifted, giving them back their self-worth and dignity, enabling them to generate an income.

Lebone Agricultural Production & Nursery

In this section we have 11 hectares of land, a suspension net of 2500 sq m and a tunnel where vegetables are grown, from which we feed +-600 people as well as generate a small income. The nursery produces seedlings for our vegetable production as well as some for selling and for the trainees who are helped to start their own vegetable garden at their home. We also propagate indigenous trees to sell.

Lebone Edu-Centre

This section has three classes providing pre-primary education for our children and afternoon classes for our children attending primary school. We also have children from the community as day scholars at the pre-school centre (who all enjoy all the benefits of Lebone House children - 3 meals a day, clothing, medication, etc) who are unable to access education due to poverty. The well equipped Telkom IT Centre, part of the Skills Development programme, is also a vital part of the Edu-Centre, enabling the children to access computer skills.

Lebone Counseling Centre

In this section we do pastoral, bereavement, grief, pre- & post- test counseling. Food and clothing banks support this program & provide social support in the form of facilitating workshops between Department of Home Affairs and the community where the people are assisted with applications for ID Documents, Birth Certificates, Pensions & Grants.
