Registration

The University of the Free State (UFS) wishes to inform all prospective students, parents, and the public that no walk-in registrations will be permitted for the 2026 academic year across all campuses. This measure ensures a streamlined, secure, and efficient admissions and registration process.

Applicants who were denied admission, as well as individuals who did not apply for the 2026 academic year, are encouraged to make use of the Central Applications Clearing House (CACH) for alternative study opportunities.

Communication to Applicants

The university has scheduled a series of SMS and email communications containing important reminders and notices for all applicants who have been offered a place to study in 2026. These communications include the following:

  • Important reminders
  • Steps for accepting your offer
  • Key dates and deadlines
  • Registration requirements and instructions

Missing any of these communications may result in delays or forfeiture of your offer. It is therefore crucial to ensure that your contact information is accurate and up to date.

Verify Your Contact Details

To check or update your details, please

Please check your email, SMS, and UFS self-service portal regularly. Registration- and offer-related communication will begin from 19 December 2025.

Mode of Registration

For the 2026 academic year, the UFS will transition to a fully online registration process for all new and returning students. This means that

  • you do not need to visit the campus to complete your registration; and
  • all steps, from verifying your information to selecting modules, can be completed online.

This approach aims to provide a more convenient, accessible, and efficient service to all students nationwide.

Important

You must adhere to the offer acceptance and registration deadlines listed in your offer letter. Failure to meet these timelines may result in your offer being withdrawn.

Online Support Services

The following channels will be available to assist you:

  • Chatbot: +27 87 240 6370
  • Telephone: +27 51 401 9111 (press 1)
  • Email: StudentAdmin@ufs.ac.za (general enquiries)

These services are available during official university hours and provide assistance with registration, offer acceptance, system navigation, and general administrative queries.

Support is available on campus for applicants who experience technical or administrative challenges.

Access to Campus

Access to UFS campuses will be strictly controlled during the registration period. Only applicants who have received an official offer for 2026 will be allowed entry.

To gain access, you must present the following:

  • Your official Offer Letter (printed or digital)

No exceptions will be made for individuals without offers, and no walk-in assistance will be available.
