Prof Hester Klopper encouraged attendees of an exclusive networking event to view the UFS as their academic home of choice.
The University of the Free State (UFS) Directorate for Student Recruitment Services (SRS) recently hosted an exclusive networking event to introduce Prof Hester C. Klopper, the newly appointed and first female Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the UFS, to school principals from Bloemfontein and surrounding areas.
This annual event provides a platform for school principals and education leaders to engage and exchange insights on key developments in the education sector. It also serves as an opportunity for stakeholders to gain a deeper understanding of the university’s student recruitment strategy, academic offerings, and the opportunities available to prospective students.
Academic excellence
Addressing the attendees, Prof Klopper emphasised the UFS’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and student success. “Excellence at the UFS is reflected in our world-class academic and support staff, as well as our state-of-the-art facilities, equipment, and infrastructure,” she said. “We are dedicated to developing and investing in high-quality academic programmes that are sustainable and provide 21st-century graduates with meaningful pathways to personal and regional development.”
Prof Klopper also highlighted the university’s role as a national and international leader in high-impact academic support initiatives designed to ensure student success.
Strengthening stakeholder engagement
Nomonde Mbadi, Director of SRS at the UFS, described the event as a significant milestone. “It was an honour to introduce the first female Vice-Chancellor and Principal of the UFS to this key stakeholder group. The event fostered meaningful interactions, providing attendees with valuable insights into the offerings of the university,” said Mbadi.
Driving innovation and entrepreneurship
Prof Klopper underscored her vision for the UFS to become a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship, inspiring students to develop an entrepreneurial mindset. “As a university, we serve as a catalyst for innovation and new thinking. We are embracing technological advancements not only in our academic programmes but also in our operational and administrative systems to ensure effectiveness and agility,” she explained. “To this end, the UFS is engaged in a comprehensive digitalisation process that spans all spheres of our operations.”
In closing, Prof Klopper encouraged attendees to view the UFS as their academic home of choice. “We want your top students to join the UFS, where they will be equipped with the skills and qualities needed to become responsible global citizens regardless of where they eventually settle in the world.”
