“I can’t believe I am at the end of my career, as I will retire on 31 December 2020,” says Gert van den Berg, Director:
Internal Audit, who is leaving the university after 35 years of service to the institution.
“Although those were the best years of my life, I am looking forward to the next chapter.
Van den Berg, who has worked with six vice-chancellors and six chairpersons of ARIC, says his association with the university dates back to 1974 when he was part of the external audit team.
“I want to thank everyone for all the great opportunities you have given me over the years. I have grown personally and professionally. I genuinely enjoyed my employment as internal auditor and will miss the university and the staff members,” he says.
He continues: “The stimulation of our positive institutional culture and the opportunities for professional advancement given to me, made waking up and coming to work each day a pleasure. It was a privilege to work for the university.”
