VC-ISRC Imbewu Legacy Fund

VC-ISRC IMBEWU LEGACY FUND

The VC-ISRC Imbewu Legacy Fund (ILF) is a dedicated student support fund that ensures that no deserving student is denied access to quality education due to financial constraints. Imbewu – a Nguni word meaning seed – symbolises growth, investment in the future, and nurturing potential. This is a transformative initiative jointly championed by the Vice-Chancellor and Principal (VCP) and the Institutional Student Representative Council (ISRC) of the University of the Free State.

To this end, the Motsepe Foundation contributed R1 381 666,67, which was matched by the VCP with R1,3 million, providing a springboard of R2 681 666,67.

Established as a beacon of hope and solidarity, the Fund seeks to:

  • Support academically deserving students who are unable to register or continue their studies due to outstanding historical debt.
  • Promote a culture of giving, rooted in the values of Ubuntu, legacy-building, and collective responsibility.
  • Strengthen partnerships among alumni, staff, students, government, and the private sector, aligning with the UFS’s strategic goals of transformation and inclusion.

This is not just a fund – it is a movement. A call to action. A legacy we are building today.
