The University of the Free State Drama Department presents a double bill: Two comical one-act plays in one will guarantee twice as much laughter!

Johanna, O Johannes by Louis de Villiers tells the story of Jonnie who comes to university as a fresh first year student. He is accompanied by his grandmother, Johanna Petronella Boshoff, and his father, Gabriel. The problem, however, is that Jonnie was blessed with his grandmother’s names, which lead to the university placing him in Hostel Kanferfoelie, a ladies’ hostel. When the matron, Mrs. Kruger, refuses to let him into the hostel, it causes consternation. Junior administrative assistant, Mr. Venter, tries his best to solve the situation. But what to do? One does not say ‘no’ to Johanna Petronella Boshoff, and besides, Gabriel has his deposit slip to prove that he has paid up.

‘n Kwessie van verbeelding by Nico Luwes, is all about Nicholas and his pal Gerald, who break into the hostel room of Nicholas’ ex-girlfriend Michelle, looking for a bunch of letters Nicholas wrote to her. The two of them, especially Gerald, quickly realise that they have entered dangerous grounds. With the voluptuous Miss Poerstamper, who is onto them, and the highly imaginative Natalie right beside her, Nicholas and Gerald soon find themselves in impossible situations. What other possible solution could there be, but to undergo a metamorphoses in order to ‘fit in’?

Come and enjoy a relaxing evening of laughter and fun. Directed by Thys Heydenrych, 18 – 20 May 2016, at 19:30 in the Scaena Theatre. Tickets available at Computicket. Age restriction of 14 for language.
