Hamlet is regarded as Shakespeare’s most famous play, and one of the great works of English in the canon. But it can also be a tortuous four hour’s worth of viewing! Now, thanks to playwright Tom Stoppard, Hamlet can be enjoyed without having to endure hours of self-reflection and lack of action. Dogg’s Hamlet is an offbeat comedy that makes fun of the ways we communicate – especially when trying to do so in different languages!

The University of the Free State’s Department of Drama and Theatre Arts brings this production to life on the Wynand Mouton stage with a subtle twist on traditional staging. Directors Dion van Niekerk and DeBeer Cloete have helped the department’s young and talented students to craft a performance that is both amusing and confusing. One thing is certain: Hamlet has never before been this much fun!

Dogg’s Hamlet performs on the Wynand Mouton stage from the 15th – 17th May at 19:30 and is about an hour long.

Tickets are available at Computicket.
