Public Examination Recital: George Foster (PhD - tuba)

George Foster, a PhD student at the Odeion School of Music, presents one of his doctoral examination recitals. He will be accompanied by Eljee du Plooy (organ) and Lesley-Ann Mathews (piano).

International Clarinet Extravaganza

The second INTERNATIONAL CLARINET EXTRAVAGANZA will take place from 28 January until 1 February 2020 at the UFS ODEION SCHOOL OF MUSIC (OSM) in Bloemfontein under the curatorship of Dr Danré Strydom.

The international mentors and soloists for the Extravaganza will be performing in several concerts during the festival:

The program will include a performance of Bach’s Concerto for four pianos (Anneke Lamont, Cezarre Strydom, Lesley-Ann Botha, Jana Mathee).
The festival clarinet choir will also be part of the programme, celebrating Beethoven.

Danré Strydom, the clarinet and saxophone lecturer at the OSM, stated the main objectives of the festival is to expose South African clarinet players, from beginners to advanced, as well as teachers and lecturers, to international clarinet trends and excellent artistry. Apart from the artistic events and masterclasses, workshops will also be presented regarding technical aspects with reference to mouthpieces, instruments, reeds and other equipment.

The official accompanists for the extravaganza will be Dr Anneke Lamont and Lesley-Ann Botha of the OSM, Dr Jana Mathee of the North-West University School of Music as well as Cézarre Strydom from the Paul Roos Gymnasium (Stellenbosch).
