Drama enthusiasts can look forward to an excellent Afrikaans adaptation of Paul Zindel’s “The Effect of Gamma Ray on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds”. The University of the Free State’s 2nd year drama students take on the challenge of performing this production directed by Dr Pieter Venter. The production will be showing in the Scaena Rehearsal Room from the 25th to the 27th of September. The play is centred around a dysfunctional family: Tillie, one of the daughters, is fascinated with the smallest building blocks of physical reality, the atom and she struggles to find her place in a home ruled by a self-centred mother, Beatrice and her sister Ruth, who attempts to stand up to the oppressing family matriarch. These conditions create the backdrop for the intrigue and unravelling of the events.
