Public Examination Recital: George Foster (PhD - tuba)

George Foster, a PhD student at the Odeion School of Music, presents one of his doctoral examination recitals. He will be accompanied by Eljee du Plooy (organ) and Lesley-Ann Mathews (piano).

Nettie Immelman Memorial Concert

Legendary piano teacher, Nettie Immelman, passed away in 2011 and the Odeion School of Music presented the first memorial concert in her honour during 2012.  Jeanne-Minette Cilliers, celebrated pianist and former pupil of Immelman was the obvious choice of a celebrated pianist to invite to perform in this first concert. 

With the second memorial concert, pianist Nicol Viljoen, will perform.  Viljoen, associate professor and head of the Odeion School of Music, is the foremost expert of Schenkerian Analysis in South Africa and a celebrated South African pianist.  With the release of his second CD, Transcendental Schubert, critic Paul Boekkooi remarked the following about Nicol’s playing: “Viljoen se spel weerspieël Schubert se ander-wêreldse gevoel en intieme spiritualiteit en versoen die komponis se Klassieke én Romantiese inslag op ideale wyse”.
